Skyrocket Your Conversions With 3 Proven Copy Strategies In 2023

Continuously attracting, nurturing and converting prospects into paying clients can feel nearly impossible to do on your own as you scale. As a business owner myself, I know just. how. much. you have on your plate — waaaay too much for you to guess or wonder what converts well (and how to implement it). So let’s cut to the chase… Here are 3 proven strategies to skyrocket conversions with your copy in 2023.

It starts with communicating in a way that inspires your audience to take action, and for you, their guide, to lead them on that journey. This is one of the most impactful ways to share your message — through powerful copy and even more valuable content. Visuals may draw prospects in and help develop a concept, but your words are what make people stay.

So what are your words saying? Are you making it easy for your prospects to say yes? Think about it this way. The easier it is for your prospect to understand your process or method, the quicker they'll see the picture you're painting and connect you with the future they're seeking.

Which leads to my first proven strategy to skyrocket conversions in 2023…

1. Write More Conversationally

More than half of Americans read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level. For my non-US friends, North American sixth graders are 11- to 12-years-old. If you know your audience reads at the same level as a 10-year-old, how does that change your copy

You need to think about your ideal client first. Too many brands still write copy that sounds spot-on to them, but it doesn’t resonate with their prospects. Instead of using complex, academic-level-copy, you want to use language your audience actually uses. If the copy and word choices feel familiar, they’re more likely to read, connect and engage.

It's also important to consider how your ideal audience consumes copy. Recent statistics show that 92.1% of users access the internet using a cell phone. Conversational copy in the age of cell phones is genuinely concise, broken up and easily digestible. It sounds like you're chatting with a friend, vs. an academic paper or a megaphone that shouts “BUY FROM ME.” It’s native, organic and relatable.

Writing more conversationally is the first key strategy in skyrocketing conversions.

2. Speak To Evoke Emotion (Not Share Logic)

While your audience might say they compare price points and brands, research shows that’s not the case — emotions drive purchasing decisions first and foremost. As much as 95% of our purchasing decisions are made subconsciously (ex. through emotion, not logic).

That’s why I’m such a big believer in storytelling. Stories inspire emotion, and activate parts of the brain to turn the story into our own experiencesbefore we actually experience it. Therefore, using stories in your copy invites prospects to visualize their future. If they can see the outcome, and it’s a future they want, they’re more likely to buy. This method helps your copy transition away from facts (which don’t evoke emotion) to stories (which do).

Not to mention that reading stories releases dopamine in the brain, which keeps your readers physiologically engaged. Meaning your prospect will read more of your copy, enjoy the experience, and likely engage afterwards.

(Soo many of my clients have seen incredible growth utilizing this strategy in their copy.)

3. Less About You, More About Them

Remember the classic break up line, "It's not you, it's me?" Well, it's time to reverse that age-old belief, because now, it's all about them!

How often do you talk about you and your business, compared to your prospect and their life? One of the biggest problems I see in copy today is brands focusing too much on “us” instead of “you.”

Casting your prospect as the hero in your copy can make a WORLD of difference when it comes to engagement and conversion. For example, a study found that including the word “my” in button copy was proven to increase click-through rate by 90%

It really comes down to how you frame and position your copy. Using language that speaks more directly to your prospect will be immediately more engaging. Word choices such as “you” and “yours” speak directly to your prospect. While it’s important to talk about your company's mission, values and goals, you have to balance this with your prospects’ desires, values and goals.

All your prospect truly wants to know is, “What’s in it for me?”, so your copy MUST speak to that. Doing so (plus writing more conversationally and emotionally) will lead to a more loyal, engaged, connected prospect.
